Friday Weigh In – 319.7 lb.

Last Friday: 321.4 lb.
This Friday: 319.7 lb.
Difference: 1.7 lb.
Withings Scale: Click Here

This week was quite the roller coaster!  I’m glad that I was able to end the week back down at 319 (which I originally hit a few days ago).  I doubt it will be enough to win this week’s Biggest Loser at work but I’m still gonna call it a win.

This also ends my 6 month experiment with The BodyBugg.   While using the Bodybugg I lost 37 pounds which is roughly an average of 6 pounds a month.  There is no doubting the effectiveness of a device that gives you fairly accurate data of how many calories you burn but I personally don’t believe having this data collected everyday is necessary.  With the BodyBugg I was able to get a great idea of how many calories I burn when I’m completely sedentary (roughly 2900) as well as on a normal workday (around 3200).   I know that 30 minutes on the elliptical can net me around 600 calories and 30 minutes of walking around 400 calories.  Having these numbers on hand while tracking a daily 2000 calorie intake is all I really need to keep within my goal of 2-3 pounds a week.  I may come back to the BodyBugg in 50 or so pounds when I need to recalculate my numbers but for now I think I’m fine without it.

Of course, tracking calories is how I lost weight before the BodyBugg as well as with the device so it’s no surprise that I will continue to do so.  Before the Bodybugg I used the Livestrong iPhone app and website which was an effective and very low cost tool (I think it was free when I got it and now it’s only 3 bucks).  Livestrong’s strongest asset (aside from the price) is the Daily Plate food database that is tied to it.  It’s weak points however are a clunky website and lack of additional features that i’m interested in.

This is why I’ve decided to give The Daily Burn a try.  It caught my eye mainly due to the fact that it integrates with my Withings wifi scale.  Add in a very polished website and slick looking iPhone app and I just couldn’t resist giving it a go.  I giving their lite version a try (costs 6 bucks a month or 50 a year) so we’ll see how it goes after 30 days.

Friday Weigh In – 322

IMG_0605

Weigh In: 322 lbs
Gain/Loss for the Week: Lost 2 pounds
Total Loss: 78 lbs

This week started off very interesting.  I must have weighed myself a dozen times on Saturday when I suddenly lost 3 pounds over night.  I’m guessing I dropped a ton of water weight that day because it bounced back up 2 pounds the next day.  I actually ended up with 3 cheat days this week (instead of my planned 2 cheat days) so having still lost 2 pounds is a nice accomplishment.  Sure, I won’t win the office Biggest Loser with all this cheating but hey at lest I’m still losing!

I’ll update this post later with the week’s Biggest Loser Results.

Biggest Loser Week 8 Results

  1. Duke (2.16)
  2. Robert (2.02)
  3. Clyde (0.80)
  4. Ted (0.74)
  5. Gilbert (0.62)
  6. Frank (0.20)
  7. Michael (-0.52)

Biggest Loser Total Results

  1. Robert (11.38)
  2. Duke (10.22)
  3. Clyde (9.66)
  4. Ted (5.76)
  5. Michael (1.14)
  6. Gilbert (0.51)
  7. Frank (0.10)

Well that was interesting.  According to my scale I only lost 1 pound this week.  I was actually down 2 pounds on Tuesday and Wednesday but then for some reason I went up a pound on Thursday.  I’m pretty certain I was accurate on my calorie intake so I can only guess it had to do with water retention.

Now that I think about it I have backed off drinking water and iced tea.  I bet that’s the reason for strange gain.

What really has me scratching my head is when I compare my numbers to the numbers at work.  Last week my scale showed me losing 3 pounds but the scale in the office only said 1 pound lost.  This week my scale showed me down only 1 pound while the scale in the office showed 3 pounds.  Either way I have a total of 4 pounds in two weeks which is my average goal of 2 pounds a week.  I guess I could attribute wear and tear on the scale at work.  There are a lot of folks who use that thing.

Oh well!  Congrats to the winners for another great game of Biggest Loser.  I hope we don’t wait till next summer to do it again.  I’m on a roll baby!

Biggest Loser Week 7 Results

  1. Michael (1.03)
  2. Duke (0.63)
  3. Robert (0.40)
  4. Clyde (0.27)
  5. Ted (0.23)
  6. Frank (0.00)
  7. Gilbert (-0.10)

Week two with the Bodybugg went pretty good.  I only went to the gym on one day, proving that you don’t need a gym to loose weight.  I didn’t like how I had to play catch up for most of the week but I believe I did prove that you can make up later on in the week if you failed to reach a previous daily goal.

It was interesting how I maintained the same weight for five days straight until I suddenly lost 3 pounds overnight.  I’m glad that I did not have the usual rollercoaster hump but it wasn’t exactly the kind of graph I expected.  This week I am going to strive to meet my daily 1000 calorie deficit goal to see if the loss is as gradual as I thought it would be.

  3. Robert (1.08)
  4. Gilbert (0.71)
  5. Frank (0.00)
  6. Michael(-1.46)
  7. Gilbert (-1.45)

These are the stats from last Friday’s weigh in.  Better late than never!  I’m glad I won but dang it took me 6 weeks to finally come out on top!  The competition is fierce this time around.  What’s sad is we only have two weigh in sessions left and I’m no where near the top of the pack.

Here’s the overall rundown so far:

  1. Robert (9.19)
  2. Clyde (8.69)
  3. Duke (7.67)
  4. Ted (4.84)
  5. Michael (0.63)

Heh.  As you can see, Labor Day weekend with Practice Thanksgiving absolutely wrecked my progress this week.  I enjoyed myself maybe a tad too much on Sunday!

But today I am on a whole new program so expect those roller coaster ups-and-downs to be a think of the past.  I now have the BodyBugg on my side!  I started wearing the lil’ device on Wednesday and by Thursday I felt pretty confident in its ability to help me overcome these set backs.   With the BodyBugg comes a change in my weight loss plans along with New Mann Pact rules that I think are very doable:

  1. Aim for a daily 1500 calorie deficit which should result in up to 3 pounds a week.
  2. Never have a calorie surplus day.  If I want to treat myself and eat more than usual or not exercise then I must at least not exceed a zero calorie balance. Basically, calories consumed cannot exceed calories burned for the day.
  3. I must pay 10 bucks to the pact fund for every day that results in a calorie surplus.
  4. I must pay 25 bucks to the pact fund for every Friday weigh in where I fail to loss at least one pound from the previous Friday.

Those are the rules and I feel confident that I can stick to it.  I’m pumped and ready to embrace my new not-quite-more-machine-than-man lifestyle!

Friday Weigh In 350

Weigh In: 350 lbs
Gain/Loss for the Week: Lost 3 pounds

Total Loss: 50 lbs

Biggest Loser Week 1 Results

  1. Clyde (2.07)
  2. Ted (1.51)
  3. Robert (0.94)
  4. Michael (0.64)
  5. Duke (0.53)
  6. Frank (0.10)
  7. Gilbert (-1.36)

I had a great week and STILL Clyde pulls the rug out from under me.  Oh well, at least I sort of made up for last week.  Reaching a milestone of 350 feels really great.  I was going to reward myself with a Wii w/ fit board because the weight limit is 350 but I decide to instead invest in the bodybug from 24 Hour Fitness.  It should arrive on Tuesday so expect a full write up by the end of the week.

It’s a good thing I didn’t get it before Practice Thanksgiving.  I would have hated to try and keep track of all those delicious calories :D

  3. Gilbert (0.52)
  4. Duke (0.26)
  5. Clyde (0.09)
  6. Michael (-0.12)
  7. Ted (-0.79)

EPIC FAIL!  Well, maybe not epic but man what a disappointing week.  I almost broke even at home (just a few points off) but as you can see by my score I actually gained some.  Basically, I knew I wasn’t going to win this week so I ate breakfast before my weigh in.  Maybe that will help me for next week’s weigh in!

I really let my jury summons mess up my routine.  Sure, I walked around downtown a lot but not to the level of effort that I put in when I’m on the machine of woe.  I actually only made it to the gym on Wednesday.   How pathetic!

While I’m flailing myself for my insolence I’m also getting my wallet out.  According to the deal I made with my pact buddy I havta cough up 25 bucks for not losing this week and then another 10 bucks for not exercising yesterday.  Oh the humanity!

Congrats to Robert and Jennifer (ladies division) for winning this week.  You guys did awesome!

  3. Clyde (0.86)
  4. Robert (0.81)
  5. Gilbert (0.62)
  6. Frank (-0.10)
  7. Michael (-0.64)

Wow!  What an awesome week!  Almost too awesome to be perfectly honest with you.  Yesterday morning my weight jumped up to 356.8 and then this morning it plunged to 353.4.  I weighed myself five times this morning because I didn’t believe the numbers but each time my weight was the same.  I even verified at work where I always weigh a couple pounds heavier.  Sure enough, compared to my official contest weight for last week and this week the difference was almost the same.

I’m getting ever so close to that 350 pound milestone!  At 350 I will finally be at the maximum capacity for a Wii Fit board!  How’s that for a gamer oriented achievement? :D

Biggest Loser Week 1 Results

  2. Duke (3.710)
  3. Robert (3.340)
  4. Michael (2.227)
  5. Ted (2.066)
  6. Gilbert (0.924)
  7. Frank (0.200)

Holy crap!  I had a great week and STILL came in 5th place!  Looks like the competition really showed up this week.  By my scale I lost 3 pounds but on the official contest scale at the office I lost 7 pounds yet I would have had to loose 15+ pounds if I wanted to to win this week.  I’m pretty sure ol’ Clyde guzzled a couple gallons of water before he weighed in.  If I recall correctly, Clyde finished 3rd in our first contest by swinging clubs at the driving range while wearing a garbage bag sweat suit.  He’s a sly one that Mr. Clyde!

I know I can maintain my rate of 2-4 pounds a week.  Lets see if the competition can keep it up :)
