Dresden Files – Welcome to the Jungle #1

I was first introduced to The Dresden Files when the short lived tv series originally aired on the Sci-Fi channel and my interest in the series led me to check out the novels that inspired the tv adaptation. I’ve read the first novel Blood Rites and I’m currently reading the second, Fool Moon. When I found out that a Dresden Files comic book was coming out I made sure I snagged me a copy.

The comic is an okay start into the world of the Dresden Files. The script and story are both written by Dresden Files creator Jim Butcher and as to be expected they’re true to form from the novels. The story is interesting although not what I would call riveting so far but I’ll give it some time to develop. What disappointed me the most was the artists representation of Dresden casting some of his spells. I wasn’t looking for fire and brimstone but was hoping to see something when he cast a wind spell to block an attacker. Don’t get me wrong. The level of detail in the artwork is well done it just needs work on depicting action.

That bit of “needs improvement” aside I feel the comic series is worthy of picking up a 2nd issue, especially after I found some tantalizing images over on this thread. It looks like many of the iconic Dresden Files characters will be making appearances so things should be looking up. We’ll see next issue.
